I received a call from a journalist today about whether I had some top tips for overcoming our fears and learning new skills or hobbies, especially when we are older.
The journalist had recently learnt to swim and ski, two activities she had always been afraid of, but wanted to embrace for the sake of her young children, and of course herself.
I sent a few thoughts to her in reply and thought I would paste them here as well.

I had a wonderful time last night speaking at a ‘Relationship Revolution’ event organised by Stylist Magazine. The evening involved 25 minute sessions with three groups of around 30 attendees in each group. We discussed the secrets of effective communication and emotional resilience within couple relationships.
Several people asked me for the ‘list of strategies for emotional well-being’ which I didn’t have time to discuss in full last night, so I have typed it below.

During the first few months of the New Year we can often feel low. This might be because it is a cold and dark time of year; because the fun of Christmas and New Year is over; because our festive period was perhaps not as pleasant as we might have wished, or we might feel overweight or unfit, or have financial, relationship or employment worries.

Dear Cat. My step-sister has just got engaged and has booked her wedding 4 weeks before mine!
I have fallen out with my family over this and am so upset, angry, and embarrassed. My wedding has been planned for over a year and it feels like its been ruined by her ‘jumping in’ and having hers just before mine! What do I do?

I have come home to my parents for a few days with my 2 1/2 year old son. We live quite far away so on this occasion I have flown by myself as my husband has to work, I also have a friends wedding which I am attending so I decided to come home for 2 weeks.
