During a chat with my sons’ teacher the other week she mentioned that he was struggling more than previously, particularly in Maths.
As a counsellor, who teaches self-confidence in schools around the country, I found myself with the opportunity to apply my own principles to my son’s situation.
Here are some of the ideas I tried, which I hope you find useful.

Hi everyone, I hope your July is going well?
I got asked by a journalist this week what my opinion is about research showing that the over 70’s are having the most satisfactory sex of any age group of married couples….. more on my answer to that in a blog post coming soon!
I also got asked by a different journalist for two “life changing top tips” on minimising or eliminating stress in 5 seconds or less.

I received a call from a journalist today about whether I had some top tips for overcoming our fears and learning new skills or hobbies, especially when we are older.
The journalist had recently learnt to swim and ski, two activities she had always been afraid of, but wanted to embrace for the sake of her young children, and of course herself.
I sent a few thoughts to her in reply and thought I would paste them here as well.

Karen’s question…
Dear Cat … I am secretly dreading the festive season, am I the only one? Every time Christmas rolls around it seems to bring with it so much pressure to be ‘having a wonderful time’ that I am usually having exactly the opposite!

I had a wonderful time last night speaking at a ‘Relationship Revolution’ event organised by Stylist Magazine. The evening involved 25 minute sessions with three groups of around 30 attendees in each group. We discussed the secrets of effective communication and emotional resilience within couple relationships.
Several people asked me for the ‘list of strategies for emotional well-being’ which I didn’t have time to discuss in full last night, so I have typed it below.
This list is just a few ideas of positive ways to de-stress and enhance our emotional well-being,

I received a call last week from someone who had seen my TEDx talk and was wondering about becoming a client. She wasn’t sure if her husband would want to come along too so I suggested that he could read my book first as an introduction to my approach and to help him decide.
I was thrilled to receive this email a couple of days later:
“Dear Cat,
… Your book is so timely for our situation at home –

During the first few months of the New Year we can often feel low. This might be because it is a cold and dark time of year; because the fun of Christmas and New Year is over; because our festive period was perhaps not as pleasant as we might have wished, or we might feel overweight or unfit, or have financial, relationship or employment worries.
What is the secret of feeling calmer and happier in the New Year?

I was pleased to be interviewed yesterday on Bernie Keith’s BBC Radio Northampton show alongside Relate counsellor Denise Knowles speaking about relationships and in particular how we show affection and love.
If you haven’t heard of ‘Love Languages’ there here is a quick summary from ‘The Five Love Languages’ by Gary Chapman.
The Five Love Languages
1. Quality Time (e.g. a day out somewhere)
2. Words of Affirmation (e.g. I love you)
3.
