Hi everyone, I hope your July is going well?
I got asked by a journalist this week what my opinion is about research showing that the over 70’s are having the most satisfactory sex of any age group of married couples….. more on my answer to that in a blog post coming soon!
I also got asked by a different journalist for two “life changing top tips” on minimising or eliminating stress in 5 seconds or less. Here is my answer:
Tip One:
Know that Stress stems from Fear – so challenge your Fears.
When you feel stressed ask yourself “What am I afraid of?”. Fear triggers your ‘fight or flight’ stress response but it is probably F.E.A.R i.e. ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’. Do you really need to feel afraid, and therefore stressed? There is actually ‘nothing to fear but fear itself’ because when we are afraid we don’t usually perform at our best and meet a potential challenge in the most effective way.
Tip Two: Find your ‘Liquid Luck’
In the film Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Harry gives Ron a potion of ‘liquid luck’, and Ron instantly switches from a nervous wreck, to a confident team player. Later we discover Harry actually added nothing to his drink.
I know this is just a film, but it is the same with our imagination. Our brains don’t know the difference between being relaxed and confident and imagining we are relaxed and confident.
When you are facing something stressful take just 5 seconds to imagine you are someone who could handle this challenge with no problem whatsoever. Really concentrate on being that person. Take a slow deep breath in, release it, and step into a new version of yourself who can take this challenge in their stride. Believe me, it works!
Feel free to let me know the two ‘5 second or less’ stress-busting tips that you use!
Take care, Cat xx
